Map Forward

Our Journey

The Map Forward Project began with children.

They remain at the heart of our work.

For years, our focus has been helping children who have experienced adversity, trauma, and developmental challenges. As we partnered with families, educators, clinicians, and community organizations, we observed the same pattern again and again:

Meaningful progress depended less on finding the “right” intervention than on creating the conditions that allowed that intervention to succeed.

Over time, a larger insight began to emerge.

The same developmental logic that explained a child’s readiness to heal or to learn also helped explain why families struggled, why classrooms became overwhelmed, why organizations experienced burnout, and why communities often found change difficult to sustain.

Rather than leaving our work with children behind, we began asking a different question:

What if the same developmental logic that helps us understand an individual child’s readiness could also help us understand the readiness of the systems surrounding that child?

That question became the foundation for The Map Forward Readiness Framework™ – a practical model that continues to support work with individual children while extending the same readiness principles to families, schools, organizations, and communities.

Today, our work spans multiple settings, but our purpose remains the same:

To understand and strengthen the conditions that allow people and systems to learn, heal, grow, adapt, and thrive.

And our central question continues to guide everything we do:

What conditions need to be in place, in people, relationships, and environments, for meaningful change to take hold?

OUR MISSION

To translate developmental neuroscience into practical frameworks, assessment, training, coaching, consulting, and implementation tools that help individuals and systems build the conditions for learning, healing, growth, and meaningful change.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe meaningful change is not created by strategies alone.

We believe people and systems function differently depending on their level of readiness.

We believe that learning, healing, adaptation, and growth become more likely when the conditions that support them are intentionally strengthened.

We believe the same developmental logic that helps us understand a child’s growth can also help us understand the functioning of families, schools, organizations, and communities.

We believe neuroscience should not remain confined to research journals or professional conferences. It should be translated into practical tools that help people solve real-world problems.

Above all, we believe that lasting change is built, not by asking people and systems to do more, but by creating the conditions that allow them to do better.

Project Leadership

The Map Forward Project brings together a team of clinicians, educators, and consultants who share a common belief:

Developmental neuroscience has its greatest impact when it is translated into everyday practice.

Our team shares advanced training in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) and the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME), providing a common scientific foundation while bringing diverse experience in clinical care, education, leadership, implementation, and community systems.

Together, we work to bridge the gap between neuroscience and practice—helping individuals and systems build the conditions that support learning, healing, growth, and meaningful change.
